Music rights + permissions
Last updated October 23, 2026
Their words. Their music. Their rights.
Ownership stays with the creators
Charlene Brown, Shirley Ann Felder, Clavia Allen, Marcy Trueheart and Karon Fayerweather retain their respective rights in the music, lyrics, stories and original material they contribute. Credited collaborators and other rights holders retain their respective rights as applicable. Brand Misfit™ Media presents this collection; presentation does not consolidate all contributors’ rights under one owner.
Written permission comes first
No reproduction, redistribution, re-uploading, sampling, remixing, adaptation or commercial use of protected music or materials is authorized by this website. Obtain explicit prior written permission from the relevant woman or women and any other necessary rights holder(s) before proceeding, unless your specific use is already authorized by a valid license or applicable law.
Commercial projects
Permission is required where applicable for use in advertisements, sponsored or monetized posts, promotional videos, films, podcasts, paid programs, products, client projects, brand campaigns and other business or revenue-generating uses. A short excerpt, a purchase, a stream, event attendance or a download does not by itself grant those rights. Giving credit does not replace permission.
A song and its recording can involve different rights
The underlying song—including its music and lyrics—and a particular sound recording are separate works. Your project may need clearance for both, and permission from more than one party. Permission must cover the specific recording, purpose, platforms, territory and duration of your use. Learn more from the U.S. Copyright Office.
How to request permission
Start with the songwriter’s contact link on her profile. Include the song title, the recording or version, the excerpt and length, a description of your project, the intended platforms and audience, whether it is paid or monetized, the territory, the duration of use and the proposed release date. For help identifying the right contact, use Bklyn Custom Designs®. The organizer can help route an inquiry; it is not an automatic licensing agent for every work. Wait for the necessary written authorization before using the material. No response is not consent.
Photos, stories and branding
Headshots, biographies, purpose statements, artwork, event graphics, logos and other protected contributions also remain subject to their owners’ rights. Do not use a woman’s name, image or brand to suggest her endorsement without authorization. Sanah Bittaye Mitchell retains her respective rights in her biography, image and original contributions; her appearance here is not an album credit or music license.
